Why Braces?

A beautiful smile and functional bite are the most obvious benefits of orthodontics! After your braces come off, you'll feel more self-confident. During your treatment, we strive to make you to feel as comfortable as possible.

How Orthodontic Treatment Works

This is a great time to have orthodontic treatment! Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each and every tooth. Orthodontic appliances can be made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. They may be removable or they may be bonded directly on to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, appliances can slowly move teeth to a corrected position.

You can choose brackets that are clear or metallic in colour, and you can choose the colour of the ties that hold the wire in place. There are options to have braces placed on the inside surface of the teeth, or to move the teeth with clear plastic appliances. Wires are less noticeable than they used to be and the latest materials move teeth faster with less discomfort than ever before.

Duration of Treatment

Treatment time typically ranges from one to three years, depending on the growth of the patient's mouth and face and the severity of the problem. Interceptive, or early treatment procedures, may take as few as six months.

The duration of treatment is estimated by comparison with similarly treated cases. Since treatment time depends so much on individual tissue reaction and patient cooperation, the estimate should be viewed as just that, an educated guess of the length of time to successfully treat the initial presenting problems. The patient's diligent use of any prescribed rubber bands or headgear is an important factor in achieving the most efficient treatment.
